We had so much fun at Safety Town and really enjoyed driving through the Safety Town course. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who came to help with this activity. We learned about traffic signs, pedestrian safety, stranger danger, gun safety, fire emergencies, driving on the right side of the street and how to safely cross (with an adult) at a crosswalk. Ask your child which part of Safety Town they liked the most and the rules they learned for being safe each and everyday!
We loved celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday with rotations to all the Kindergarten classrooms. We loved seeing all the fun costumes and eating a tasty Cat in the Hat snack for Fun Friday. Thank you so much to Ms. Hutchens for coming in to make this with us.
We practiced rhyming words and reading Dr. Seuss books this week. We really appreciate you letting us borrow all your Dr. Seuss at school this week too. We also worked on word families this week, especially -at family words. We will continue practicing word families and sounding out 3 letter words during Reading next week too.
We finished our Black History book study on Tar Beach this week. We read the story, discussed story elements, and then made a text to self connection. Each student came up with their own special place to fly over; just like Cassie Louise in the story. Our Tech Buddies helped the students create a Puppet Pals video about his/her special place. We had some internet connection issues last week so I hope to get them uploaded to DropBox next week to share with you all.
We also completed our unit on composing and decomposing numbers in the teens this week. The students did a great job and I'm so proud of them!
Next Week's Themes: Guided Reading, Story Elements, Daily 5, Opinion Reading, Measurement, & Dental Health
Popcorn Words: so, out, too
*We have a field trip to Children's Dentistry on Tuesday at 9:00. Have your child wear his/her green shirt for this exciting activity.
