We have had a great week exploring Earth Materials in Science. We learned all about Rocks and Soil. We sorted and described rocks by their size, shape, color, and texture. We also learned about different types of soil (sandy soil, clay, and topsoil). Thank you so much to Mrs. Mullen and Mrs. Lamon for making yummy Earth Materials & Soil Snacks with us for Fun Friday today! We will go to the Science Lab on Tuesday to explore more Earth Materials.
We are really enjoying writing in our new genre of Opinion/Persuasive Writing. We discussed the Lorax and how he never gave up trying to get others to save the truffula trees. We decided to be like the Lorax and give our readers many reasons to help us fix problems and to write a lot and in different ways to make the world a better place. We learned that writers can make books, letters, signs, posters, stories, pictures, petitions, and even songs to persuade others to help. We even listened and studied the lyrics to Pete Seeger's song, "If I Had a Hammer" and wrote our own song called "If I Had An Opinion". Ask your child about the writing they have been working on this week.
We continued working on Base 10 in Math this week. We used Base 10 blocks to build numbers in the teens. We played some great Base 10 games with partners and on the computer too. We learned some great songs that help us with Base 10 that I will add to the songs/videos under Math.
We continued Daily 5, Read to Self, and Guided Reading this week. We worked on handwriting for letters Hh & Ii this week with Mrs. Moore. I am also testing DRA Reading Levels and will send your child's current reading level home next week.
Next Week's Themes: Guided Reading, Daily 5, Opinion/Persuasive Writing, Base 10, Earth Materials, Science Lab
