We had a great week continuing Writing Workshop and Daily 5 & Guided Reading. We introduced a new Word Work center, "Rainbow Writing", and the class really enjoyed practicing writing popcorn words using rainbow markers. We continued working in our Writing Folders and learned how to make books this week too! We really enjoyed reading Strega Nona, Her Story and discussing story elements. We discussed the characters, setting, plot (beginning, middle, and end), problem, and solution. Ask your child to retell the story to you by reminding them about these important story elements. We continued discussing story elements in smART stART through dance with Mrs. Laurin this week. The class loved creating different movements for characters and retelling a story through dance.
We learned some new 10 Frame Games this week and enjoyed playing them with partners too. Don't forget to practice counting to 100 with your child and writing numerals too! We can't wait for the 100th Day of School on Monday and have lots of fun 100 counting activities planned.
We learned about gravity (a force that pulls objects down on Earth) this week. We discussed that things within Earth gravitational pull will come back down but things in space (outside of Earth's gravitational pull) will stay up. Ask your child to tell you all about Chicken Little and what objects stay up and what things come back down.
We celebrated our "No Tardies Pizza Party" for Fun Friday today. Mrs. Richman stopped by to congratulate our class for having zero tardies in the month of December.
Next Week's Themes: Story Elements, Writing Workshop, Guided Reading, smART stART, Motion, Science Lab on Motion and Gravity, & 100th Day of School
