We had a great week reviewing color words and number words in Writing! We discussed visualization and how to see pictures in your head while reading a story by listening to the describing words. We listened to The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything and wrote about what we visualized. Ask your child to retell the story and describe what their scarecrow scared. We also read the story Go Away Big Green Monster this week. We drew the monster we visualized in our heads, made a Big Green Monster art project, and then wrote about our own monsters using color words and describing words. A big thank you to Mrs. Lamon and her daughters for volunteering for Fun Friday today! We loved making Big Green Monster cookies with you.
We continued building our reading stamina during Read to Self this week. We have worked up to 6 minutes of reading the whole time! Please remember to read to and with your child at home too.
We continued our unit on Shapes this week by introducing 3D shapes. We identified and described a
sphere, cylinder, cube, and a cone. We observed 3-D shapes in the world around us and also reread the story, The Legend of Spookley the Square
Pumpkin and made 3-D shapes from PlayDoh. Check out the 3D Shapes Song under the Class Work Tab/ Song and Videos! You can also practice the 3D shapes skills on ixl.com.
We really enjoyed discussing Maps and Globes for Social Studies this week. We looked at many examples of maps and globes. We learned that a map is a flat picture of Earth and a globe is a 3D model of Earth. The class loved using the Google Earth App to see pictures of our planet, continent, country, state, city, and school. We learned a great song this week to teach us all about this called The World Family by Dr. Jean. Please practice memorizing your address and phone number with your child.
Thanks for meeting us at the Pumpkin Patch!
If you couldn’t make it this time, look for an opportunity to meet at the movies in the
spring.
